Your Filling Line Needs a Labeling System. Here’s What to Consider

Are you still labeling your bottles, cans and other containers by hand? While small businesses may begin their production process hand labeling, it’s not sustainable. As your business scales up, so too will your production needs. Adding a labeling system to your current or future filling line can help you turn out consistent, professional products far more quickly.

Quadrel Labeling Systems manufactures high quality labeling machines for a wide range of containers and products. Here’s what to consider when choosing one of our systems.

Are you labeling before or after filling?

First, determine whether you’ll be labeling containers before or after filling: it not only affects the type of system you’ll need, but it impacts where in the production line you’ll install the system. Measure the production line area to ensure that you have enough room on the line to add a labeling system.

Next, you’ll need to determine whether the mechanical equipment and software integrations are compatible with your existing or desired equipment. If you’re not sure, the experience team at Quadrel will be happy to answer any questions.

What type of container are you labeling?

The type of container you’re labeling also impacts your labeling system options. For instance, if you’re filling bottles after labeling, one of our pressure sensitive bottling systems may be appropriate. If you’re filling bottles before labeling, a shrink sleeve labeler can flawlessly wrap any bottle, including a tamper-evident seal if required.

For flat containers, look for a labeling system that can apply top, side or bottom labels. Some of our labeling systems can handle all three positions at the same time.

Of course, not every product has a standard type of container or bottle. That’s why we offer custom labeling systems for a variety of non-standard sizes, shapes and product types.

What kind of labels will you use?

Next, determine what kind of labels you’d like to use. For instance, if you’re labeling containers before they’re filled, a shrink sleeve labeling system is usually not appropriate. That’s because shrink sleeves are often wrapped and shrunk around a pre-filled bottle to create a full-body label and a tamper-evident seal. (Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t use a shrink sleeve labeler for empty bottles).

Pressure sensitive labels are the most commonly used labels. These labels are backed with adhesive, so they’ll adhere to the container. Pressure sensitive labels will not provide full-body design possibilities, but our labeling systems can apply multiple labels to the top, bottom and sides of your product.

What kind of speed do you need?

Finally, consider your ideal production speed. This will help you determine the labeling system that best suits your needs. Semi-automatic machines are typically slower than automatic machines, but they are also smaller and more economical.

Choosing the right labeling system for your filling line depends on several variables. Quadrel’s knowledgeable staff can help you determine which system is right for your production needs.
