This highly customized automatic labeling system features several verification,
safety and inspection options to meet the exceedingly stringent standards of the
Pharmaceutical Industry. The labeler includes a state-of-the-art CTC color touch
screen which handles all machine controls and diagnostics.
Three inspection stations ensure that the final product is correctly labeled and marked.
They include: a fallen product ejector at conveyor entry; a visual detector to verify
label attachment before entering the wrap station; and a luminescent camera to check for
proper label positioning.
The print and apply labeling system (Open DateŽ or Smart DateŽ) allows variable
product identification through a thermal transfer printer for data such as lot code
(represented with text and bar code), date code and manufacturing code. A vision
system performs character recognition to verify correctness of printed data and a bar
code scanner verifies printed bar code for legibility and accuracy. If an unlabeled
product, unreadable bar code, or unreadable label is detected, the product is ejected from the system.
The programmable logic controller (PLC) directs and monitors all functions of the
labeling head including missing label gap detection sensor, low label detector, broken
web and over 50 system faults. This labeler also features a custom label rewinder/reconciliation
system which accounts for any unused labels.
